This is 42.
Trying to stay in shape is the hardest thing to do. Especially as you get older. I don’t mind wrinkles. I don’t mind gray hair.
But the one thing I do work hard against is trying to keep the weight down. I’m 5’2 and believe me, a few extra pounds makes a huge difference in my appearance and my mental health. My favorite go to is power walking/jogging. Absolutely love it. My 2nd favorite is Yoga. When it comes to exercising, I push myself every time. I’m not lazy. I can go 1 more mile – why not?!?!! I can lift a little more weight – lets do this!
However, my biggest kryptonite is FOOD. Especially in a social setting. I love a great meal. I also love to cook. I’ll work so hard to eat organically and I’ll feel great for months. The scale is under control and my clothes fit. Then suddenly life gets in the way. Big changes. New house. Work is busy. You name it, I’m stressed. The extra pounds return and I have to pull back the reins all over again. My body needs constant exercise and wise food choices to stay lean. That’s just how I’m built.
I have tried many diets over the years. There is only 1 that works for me. Weight Watchers! They are the easiest, most diet friendly program I have ever used. Affordable and easy to follow. I have been able to trim down (10 pounds) in just about 3-4 months. I know that sounds like a long time, but that’s how long it takes me to drop the weight. And that’s with constant tracking and exercise. 10 pounds may not sound like a lot but for me……. 5 - 10 pounds less and I feel like a million bucks. I don’t want to be a size zero. I just like to feel healthy and energized. If anyone is interested in my personal diet plan, feel free to try it and see if it makes a difference in your life.
Monday through Friday while tracking with Weight Watchers.
Home coffee is fine. Cream and sugar.
Breakfast – fruit, yogurt, smoothie or Cereal with almond milk.
Lunch – Salad with a protein, soup, fish/tuna or chicken with veggies. I do eat subs. Turkey or veggie wraps. And yes, I will have mayo.
Snack – nuts of your choice or fruit smoothie with protein. Popcorn or hummus with veggies.
Dinner at home - Chicken or fish meals with veggies. Salad. I do allow carbs as a side. No more than 1 cup with my meal.
Water is great- drink it!
Any drink you like that is sugar free. I don’t think it’s fair to eliminate what you love. For me. Coke zero or Sprite Zero for lunch or dinner.
Light Beer or wine on occasion.
FYI- I only cook with Olive oil.
Weekends - I let loose a bit but still track my points.
Cream cheese bagel for breakfast with turkey bacon or cereal.
Turkey burger or chicken sandwich with chips on the side. Love me some Lay’s potato chips.
I do allow Pizza. No more than 2 slices.
Tacos and burgers, yes please.
Light beer or 1 glass of organic wine.
I will have chips and dip.
A little ice cream as a treat.
Spaghetti is one of my favorite meals for the weekend. I even add garlic bread on the side.
I bake my own french fries and chicken wings in the oven to avoid heavy oils.
What I save for when I have EXTRA weekly points leftover to use or I avoid them completely if I run out of points for the week:
Donuts
Bagels
Fast Food
Dairy
Red Meat
TV dinners
Desserts
Pasta
Processed meat.
How I order food at the restaurant:
I either have 1 appetizer or 1 entrée as my meal. Never both.
If I want a burger, I swap the fries for something healthy like a salad.
If I order wings, then no fries. Salad on the side.
Say no to dessert – unless you are celebrating a special occasion.
Stick to 1 alcoholic drink. Keep water on the side.
Or use all your weekly points for that 1 special night and go nuts 😊
****REMEMBER, unused daily points roll over into your weekly point slot. Use them to your advantage. ******
Conclusion:
My weight has fluctuated over the years and that’s okay. Weight Watchers is always there to support me in case I need them. Do what works for your lifestyle and budget.
