HALLOWEEN
My Love for Halloween started when I was very young - I would say at 5yrs old. My Family embraced Halloween without any concerns. We viewed October 31st as fun and traditional. Candied apples & pumpkin pie. Charlie Brown Halloween specials and PG rated spooky films.
When I was a kid, my Mom and Grandma would put up cute decorations of witches and black cats on our windows. The cheap cardboard cutouts from the 80’s. FYI- The dollar store Today still sells them 😊
My Grandma, who was a seamstress at the time, made a Witch costume just for me. I think I was 6 or 7. I still remember the material and its design. It was super soft and comfy to wear. She even made a belt to go with it. The only item I bought separately was the Hat. I felt very special that night. I was wearing a one-of-a-kind authentic Witch costume made by my Abuelita.
I continued to dress up like a Witch for years. In fact, my Husband recently gifted me the coolest black Witch Hat from the Renaissance Fair. It’s very Harry Potterish. I plan to wear it this Fall while I pass out candy to the kids. Pictures to follow in the future.
Once I reached my Teen years, the Slashers kicked in. My all-time favorite is Michael Myers Halloween with Jamie Lee Curtis.
And after the slashers came the Blair Witch Project. Then I went WAY back to black and white classic Monsters. And we can’t forget Mr. Vincent Price.
I do avoid anything that is super gross. I don’t enjoy any movies where children or animals are abused. I check the rating BEFORE I see a movie. If I see anything disgusting, I won’t see it. In fact, any movie that has rape or too much violence, I’ll pass on it. I’m more of a Classic Horror Gal.
I also don’t engage in the Occult. Surprised? I don’t play around with anything evil. I avoid the Ouija. I don’t believe or talk to Psychics. And I’m not very superstitious.
I don’t believe in magic spells or crystals. I just think crystals in general are beautiful as decorations. But I don’t believe they carry any power.
People assume because I’m into Halloween that I’m into dark things. I promise you that my home is full of love and peace.
I only decorate for Fall when its appropriate. I have seen other fanatics that decorate their homes all year around. That’s super cool.
I’m just not that extreme. Although, I do have a Halloween coffee mug I use every day
I celebrate Halloween MY way. I love the Autumn look of foliage. I love pumpkin patches. Little kids dressing up. Hayrides and apple cider. All of it makes me feel warm and fuzzy.
Halloween starts it all. It brings people together. Football. Family. Turkey and then Christmas.
So forgive me when I get a little excited when I see the first Fall décor in TJ Maxx around August. I…… CAN’T…… WAIT!
