Overcoming Perfection.

You wake up early in the morning after a great night of sleep.  Your outfit is on point and you feel amazing. No traffic.  You’re on time and ready to tackle the day.  Lunch was great too and its almost the end of the day. You’re smiling and joking with co workers. Life feels amazing today……and then it all comes crashing down.

You receive a call from a nasty client, blaming you for all their issues and now you feel awful. Then your boss comes down on you because you should’ve caught that mistake before you even made it.  Because let face it, you’re supposed to be Psychic, right?

Now you feel really bad.  Your boss is disappointed and you’re thinking WHY DO I EVEN HAVE THIS JOB?????  I SUCK.  You end up crying in the bathroom or running to the bar for a drink.

It doesn’t end there.  You drive home in the worst mood.  Snap at your family as soon as you walk through the door. You go to bed that night feeling shame, guilt and most of all, ruining what you thought was the perfect day.

Sound familiar?  That was me about 5 years go.  I would allow 1 problem to completely ruin my mood. I spent a lot of time trying to make the day perfect. And I mean PERFECT.  Checking off my to do list to avoid any trouble. I did all I could to make everything perfect so I could say – Today was a good day. But its impossible.  Sometimes you are fighting with someone.  Or you did make a mistake and now you need to fix it.  It doesn’t mean the whole day is completely ruined.

It has taken a long time for me to retrain my brain to be more positive.  The fact is, life is FULL of problems.   It doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world.  Although our Brains think so.  We have to teach ourselves its okay to be Human. Just because you encounter an unexpected drawback doesn’t mean the whole day is wasted.

Life is short.

Start by thinking of 5 positive things that no one can take away from you.

Is it your talent? Your good health? Your forgiving nature? Your personality? Your loyalty? Name them out loud.

Remind yourself you’re still amazing!

“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.”
